About Ian Ian MacTavish opened Ian's Donuts & Coffee on a cold January morning in 1978. Armed with his grandmother's doughnut recipes and a stubborn refusal to use anything but real ingredients, he set up shop in a little brick building right next to the Moose Jaw Community Arena. "The hockey parents were my first customers," Ian says. "They'd come in at 5 AM for practice, half-frozen, and I'd have the coffee ready and the fryers going. Pretty soon the whole town was coming." That was almost fifty years ago. Ian's still there. Still by himself. Still making every donut by hand, every single morning, starting at 4:30 AM. No frozen dough. No factory fillings. No franchises. No partners. Just Ian, doing it right. The sign on the door still says what it's always said: "Stay As Long As You Need, Bud." |
